Government Analytics
Public-sector reporting has an unusual property: the number has to be defensible, and the person defending it may be doing so in front of an auditor, a legislature or the press. Provenance matters more than presentation.
What makes this different
Most government organizations do not lack data; they lack an agreed version of it. The same headcount figure differs between the establishment office, the payroll run and the annual return, usually for defensible reasons that nobody has written down. Reconciling those definitions is the substance of an analytics engagement, and the dashboard is what is left over afterwards.
Statutory reporting is the anchor. There are returns that must be produced on a schedule, in a prescribed format, and generating them from the same data the dashboards use is what keeps the two from drifting apart. When they drift, the dashboard is the one that gets ignored.
Access governance is not optional here. Aggregate figures are frequently publishable while the records behind them are not, so the platform has to support drill-down that stops at the boundary of what the viewer is entitled to see, rather than relying on nobody thinking to click.
